I moved one of my domains over to ProtonMail. I’m still very happy with Fastmail but wanted an alternative/backup email provider. I’ve used Proton occasionally and figured this would be a good way to start using it more.

I'm very curious to hear your thoughts. I've been using Fastmail for years, but am preparing to transition to a new primary email address. I might take this as an opportunity to switch email hosts and Protonmail would be high on my list of contenders.

@mdrockwell I just switched today and I’m still waiting for the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC DNS records to fully propagate and be recognized by Proton but happy with my decision so far. I’ll let you know more in a few day.

@mdrockwell the DMARC record was a new one for me. protonmail.com/support/k...

@mdrockwell Proton can be more expensive compared to Fastmail which is a downside but I don’t mind paying for the security of Proton. Not sure if you use a catch all address but Proton requires their Professional or Visionary plan for a catch all email.

@mdrockwell I decided to go with the Visionary plan. I got a credit for the remainder of the Plus plan I had but it was still pricey. But, the Visionary plan includes ProtonVPN as well as beta access to ProtonDrive (E2EE online storage)

@peterimoore well, "stick with Fastmail" and "move to Protonmail" are my top two. My number three is "search DDG for ‘best privacy focused email host’". Lol

@peterimoore cool! I've seen it mentioned when I have searched. I'll make sure it's on my list to investigate when I start transitioning to the new email address.

@peterimoore @mdrockwell Tutanota looks nice as well. I had an existing Proton account so that’s why I went with Proton

@mdrockwell I’ve been happy with my move to ProtonMail so far. The iOS apps are pretty nice and work well, and the web app for the v4 beta is really nice. I can’t comment on how well the desktop bridge app works because I rarely use a desktop app.

@mdrockwell The current iOS apps do not have dark mode support but the v4 beta web app does have dark mode, though it’s a manual option. This isn’t a deal breaker for me, but something to be aware of.

@mdrockwell ProtonMail is the only email service I’ve used that supports both labels and folders. No issues with ProtonVPN either.

cool, thanks for the follow up on that! I'm not really sure the service is for me, though. Being locked into their client on mobile isn't ideal — I want IMAP support so I can move email clients as I see fit. :I'll probably stick with Fastmail unless StartMail or Tutanota look better (I'll need to research those).

@mdrockwell Tutanota locks you into their apps like ProtonMail. StartMail supports IMAP
